Early Orthodontic Care
When Is Early Orthodontic Treatment Beneficial?
Treatment for most orthodontic problems will usually begin around the ages of nine to 14, when all the baby teeth are gone and the permanent teeth are in place. However, there are some conditions that are much easier to treat if they're caught at an earlier age. The conditions in which early orthodontic treatment can be very beneficial:
Early Orthodontic Treatment
Tongue thrusting - This is a behavioral pattern in which the tongue will protrude through the anterior incisors during speech, swallowing, or other activities. This can also cause an open bite.
Mouth breathing - This is an abnormal breathing pattern where the mouth remains open and passes air straight to the lungs. This habit is related to alterations in the muscular function of the tongue and face and can cause both the upper and lower jaw to develop abnormally. This can lead to serious orthodontic problems.

How Thumb Sucking Affects The Bite
Thumb sucking can actually block the front teeth from erupting fully and can also push the teeth forward — sometimes more on the side where the thumb rested. How far out of position the teeth end up will depend on the number of hours per day the thumb was in the child's mouth and how much pressure was applied.
